Many twitterazi are in mourning this week as yesterday we heard about the loss of the wonderful @leaferbeleafer. I first came in to contact with this courageous lovely over a year ago when I was battling with mild post natal depression. Isolated from Family and friends in the UK. I was struggling and whenever I was having a really low day, up she’d pop with her sarcastic wit. In fact she perfected that so much I’m sure she was secretly British! She regularly had kind words and support, not just for me, but for so many people. An avid sports fan like myself we were soon chatting about our #Leafs. The truth is we could chat about anything and although I’m saddened to have not met her in person, I can say that I came to think about her as a great friend and was proud to have had the pleasure of her online company for the last 12months. Sam was a feisty, sassy lassy, with an amazing sense of humor! I remember last year she was at the #Leafs game and had taken an elderly neighbor with her as a treat. It was just the kind of girl she was. Earlier this year, my Mum was diagnosed with Cancer. It was absolutely the scariest thing I had been through. While I waited by the phone for news on the life saving surgery, Sam aka @leaferbeleafer was tweeting me through it!
It wasn’t until a few weeks ago that I found out that she herself was ill! We discussed the symptoms, best you can with 140characters. As a previous nurse I could tell it was going to be a battle, but I hoped, I prayed one of the new treatments would work and give this fantastic woman a chance to continue to add value to everything she did! I never met her family, but I hope they can take some comfort from the fact that she touched so many lives on a daily basis. She continues to be an inspiration and her Twitter friends and #leafs nation buddies will ensure her memory is honored!
Looking back Sam often had the last word and yesterday was no exception as she wrote a final farewell to many of us. She wrote about not knowing where she was going, all I can say is that where ever you are Sam, they will be privileged and honored to know you. Rest in peace my friend
Our paths never crossed but she sounds amazing.
I think you’ve honored her with you’re fond memories! :0)
